Game Development – Part 4

Moving within the World

When we are walking outside, we are moving through our environment; however, in games it is quite the opposite. Rather than your character moving across the background, the background is moving across the screen behind your character! This simulate movement within the world. In the case of this game, the background was created in such a way where it can repeat over and over again. The game has two sets of the same background. They move both across the screen and as one has moved off the stage, it returns to the starting position to start over making it appear as though the background is endless.

Use the left and right arrow keys to cause the character to move. Pressing the up key will cause the character to jump into the air. If it’s not working, please click on the stage first to activate the controls.
