Netiquette Guidelines
“Netiquette” is online communication etiquette. Our classroom uses digital tools where we can safely share our points of view and express ourselves with respect for others. Here are some basic guidelines that all students are expected to follow:
- Express your opinions politely.
- Respect the copyrights of others. Don’t copy/paste information from websites. When researching, your opinions are likely formed by reading articles and web pages; you should always cite your sources in these cases by putting a parentheses at the end of the sentence or paragraph with the source of the information.
- Respect the copyrights of your peers. Don’t copy/paste the information of other students. It belongs to them. Read it and learn from them. You may also respond to them but never disseminate their information.
- Do not use “texting” abbreviations when writing.
- Use well-constructed language. Follow the rules of spelling and grammar.
- Avoid sarcasm and humor as these can be easily misinterpreted, especially by individuals of different cultures than your own.
- Do not send messages that you write when you are angry or upset. If something is written that bothers you, let your teacher know; they are here to help.
- Please do not use all capital letters as it is considered SHOUTING.
